City Lights was a San Francisco bookstore founded in 1953 by poet Lawrence
Ferlinghetti and Peter D. Martin as the first all-paperback bookstore in America, if
not in the world. In 1955, Ferlinghetti launched a publishing house that published
Allan Ginsberg's Howl in 1956. The second printing of that small collection of
Ginsberg's poetry was printed in England and shipped to San Francisco. A portion
of that printing was seized by customs under the charge of obscenity. After that,
Ferlinghetti and the bookstore manager Shigeyoshi Murao were arrested for
publishing and distributing obscenity. City Lights Bookstore won that court case;

Arlo Guthrie is Woody Guthrie's Son. Like his Father, Arlo also had a great

American comedy film co-written and directed by Arthur Penn.

Donovan Leitch's Official website. Donovan learned finger style guitar playing
form Mac MacLead and was mentored by Derroll Adams since 1958 when
Adams was touring Europe with Ramblin' Jack Elliott, and all through 1965
when Donovan was on top of the chart lists in America. Donovan was a
bohemian and one of the earliest hippies. He lived a life of a gipsy with his
roadie friend Gypsy Dave. Donovan was inspired by Jack Kerouac and other
Beat writers' works when he was a teenager. Donovan used to play on Gibson
guitars. Later, he switched to custom-order guitars by Tony Zemaitis from
London. Now, he plays on a greentop custom-order Celtic style guitar by
Danny Ferrington from Santa Monica, California. "Sunshine Superman: The
Journey of Donovan" is an excellent documentary film by Hanna Rossacher
about the life of Donovan with lots of music, info and rare film footage.
